Mona Becker sworn in after Westminster reports 2025 election results

Mayor Mona Becker was sworn in and city officials publicly reported the results of Westminster’s 2025 municipal election during a special meeting at Emerald Hill, the city’s historic city hall.

City Administrator (standing in for the city clerk) reported that a total of 827 votes were cast. The administrator read the tallies reported for mayor and common council: Mona Becker, 678; Nicholas Thomas, 143. For common council candidates the administrator read Tony Kovacic, 702; Dan Huff, 665.

The vote totals were entered into the record and the council accepted the report. Shortly afterward, Heather Duis, clerk of the circuit court for Carroll County, administered the oath of office to Mona Becker. During the oath she asked Becker to “raise your right hand” and recite the standard oath to support the constitutions and to “diligently and faithfully” execute the office of mayor. Becker responded, “I do.”

Becker thanked council members and residents in brief remarks following the oath. "I just want to say ... thank you for all the support during the last four years and throughout the recent election," Mayor Mona Becker said, noting downtown events and recent projects completed during her term.

The city clerk was attending a conference and did not deliver the report; the city administrator stood in to read the official results.

The council chairman declared the reported results and closed the item. The meeting then proceeded to organization of the council, including elections for council leadership.

Ending: The mayor and council concluded the special session after swearing in elected officials and recording the election results. The council noted its next regular meeting will be Monday, June 6 and that committee assignments and board nominations will be re-seated at the next organizational meeting on June 9.
