High Point City Council voted on May 20 to approve a bond order authorizing the city to sell up to $41.2 million in combined enterprise system revenue bonds to finance water and sewer system capital projects.
Bobby Fitzhugh presented the final bond order at the meeting, citing projects the financing would support: Waterview pump station improvements; Westside centrifuge replacement; expansion of the White Mill lift station; replacement of existing filters at the Ward treatment plant; and replacement of the east‑side treatment plant ultraviolet disinfection system. Fitzhugh said the Local Government Commission (LGC) will consider the financing June 3; if approved, the city would sell the bonds on June 4 and close before the end of June.
Why it matters: The bond proceeds pay for multiple treatment‑ and collection‑system capital projects intended to maintain or improve water and wastewater service and regulatory compliance.
Council moved and seconded approval at the May 20 meeting and approved the bond order by voice vote; council did not record a roll‑call tally in the public remarks. Fitzhugh said staff are available to answer detailed project questions and noted the LGC review and sale schedule.
Provenance: Finance presentation, council motion and approval recorded in the meeting minutes.
