Staff described the state estimate as conservative: “the state had, just based on our previous protocols, wanted us to include 5% of the road to be patched. ... we think it's much more under 1% of the road to be patched,” a county project presenter said, and suggested preparing for roughly $200,000 of patching as a high-end estimate.
The county engineer and staff said the project covers about 5.2 miles and that funds for the county portion are available in the Road & Bridge budget and equipment reserve. Commissioner discussion focused on ensuring appropriate budget appropriation before signing; county staff confirmed there is over $1 million in available funds for resurfacing and reserve purposes and recommended placing the agreement on the next meeting agenda to finalize signatures.
Commissioner Johnson signed the contract estimate during the meeting; the board then made a formal motion and voted to approve the HMA 1095 overlay project by Peppercorn for $11,449,086.18. Commissioners asked Road & Bridge staff (Todd Mueller and Jesse) to appear at the next meeting to confirm funds and discuss additional roads if budget allows.
