Construction began in July on a phased reconstruction of the Village Hall parking lot in Hoffman Estates and is expected to continue through mid-November, Senior Transportation Engineer Sonia Zala said.
The project, which the village says reached its halfway point in mid-September, aims to replace pavement that had reached the end of its useful life and to add stormwater-management features. "The pavement had come to the end of its useful life and needed to be replaced," Zala said.
The work is being phased so a portion of the lot remains open at all times, but parking has been limited at times and Zala encouraged residents to use the village website for online payments and services. "Please visit hoffmanestates.org to access these online services," she said. The village temporarily moved the on-site payment drop box and said it remains accessible to vehicles.
During the current phase, the electric vehicle charging stations at Village Hall are unavailable, the village said. Drivers visiting the site are asked to follow posted directional signage and to drive with caution while construction is underway.
Stormwater and landscaping improvements included in the project qualify the village for up to $462,000 in funding through a green infrastructure partnership program administered by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. The planned enhancements listed by the village include a reduction in total pavement area, construction of bioswales and rain gardens around the lot perimeter, limited areas of permeable pavement, and light pole replacements.
The village budget for 2025 includes $2,000,000 for the parking lot reconstruction project. The village posts updates on the project on its active construction projects map at hoffmanestates.org/construction, the announcement said.
Senior Transportation Engineer Sonia Zala closed the update with a reminder of safety and online service options while work continues.
