SPLOST update: Henry County highlights tax/tag office, aquatic center, road resurfacing and widening projects

County staff presented a SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) progress video summarizing capital and transportation projects funded by SPLOST programs.

The video highlighted a recent groundbreaking for a new Locust Grove tax and tag office to be located adjacent to the driver services office; county officials said the new building is expected to open in late 2026, weather permitting. Work continues on the Henry County Aquatic Center in McDonough (SPLOST 5 funding), with indoor pools finished and outdoor slide structures reported to be about 80% complete; the project remains on schedule to open in summer 2026.

Staff said SPLOST 6 is funding countywide road resurfacing that will cover nearly 200 county roads through spring 2027; contractors have completed resurfacing of Eagle Fleming Parkway, Hudson Bridge Road and East Lake Parkway, with ongoing work on Locust Road in Locust Grove and Keys Ferry Road in Ola. The Rock Quarry Road widening project in Stockbridge has broken ground and includes early tree clearing and utility relocation ahead of construction; the widening is jointly funded with federal dollars and transportation local-state funding.

Design contracts were awarded for future widening projects (Willow Lane, East Lake Road, Oak Grove Road, East Atlanta Road, Jodeco Road, Hampton–Locust Grove Bridge area and Patrick Henry Parkway), and staff said SPLOST departments have started more than two dozen projects since SPLOST 6 collections began in April 2025. The presentation drew no substantive board questions; commissioners moved on to the consent agenda after the video.
