Sebring Fire Department receives chief’s awards after roadside birth response

Mayor noted that Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Rivera, Firefighter EMT Mike Vasovich and intern firefighter Frank Olivero (Station 17) responded to a vehicle with a birth in progress and assisted the mother, delivering the baby safely at the scene. The three were presented the fire chief’s award for “demonstrat[ing] exceptional performance in extraordinary circumstances.”
Council and staff thanked the firefighters for their service; no formal action or budgetary item accompanied the recognition.
