Council approves monthly community prayer gathering on the downtown Circle

Chantelle Paris, representing Bountiful Blessings Church of God, asked the City Council at the May 20 meeting to approve a recurring community prayer gathering on the Circle downtown: she proposed holding the event on the first Friday of each month from about 8 to 9 a.m., inviting neighboring towns to participate.
Paris said four churches had already committed to the effort and framed the event as community-building and interfaith prayer for local officials, businesses, residents and visitors. Councilmembers asked about scheduling conflicts with other downtown events and one councilmember suggested organizers may need to shift times on occasions when the Circle is otherwise in use. The council voted to approve the request as presented.
Council did not place additional operational conditions on the event at the May 20 meeting. Staff and council noted the organizers should coordinate with the events calendar to avoid conflicts.
