Board approves new principals for Higgins and Tennis Wood elementary schools

The L'Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday approved two principal appointments for next school year: Amanda Malimenka as principal of Higgins Elementary School and Destiny Moore as principal of Tennis Wood Elementary School.

Human-resources staff said both vacancies were posted internally and externally for 10 business days. The district received 30 total applications for the two positions (23 external, 7 internal), shortlisted eight candidates for interviews and conducted an interview process before bringing two recommended candidates to the board.

For Higgins Elementary, the administration recommended Amanda Malimenka, described in the presentation as having 14 years of educational leadership experience and most recently serving as elementary program consultant in Bloomfield Hills Schools. The board approved the recommendation on a motion by Board Member Jason Sellers, seconded by Board Member (first name not specified in the transcript) Cypress; the motion carried on a voice vote.

Malimenka addressed the board and said she is a district graduate and called the appointment a "full circle moment," thanking the board and district leadership for the opportunity.

For Tennis Wood Elementary, the administration recommended Destiny Moore, described as having four years of educational leadership experience and previous roles with National Heritage Academies, including interim principal experience and work implementing positive behavior interventions and supports. The board approved that recommendation on a motion by Sellers with support by Board Member Davila.

Superintendent Keith Howell thanked both incoming principals and said he looked forward to working with them.

The approvals were recorded during the meeting's personnel consent agenda; the board permitted both candidates to make brief remarks following formal approval.
