Elbert County Public Works reports hail damage to 52 county vehicles; adjuster visit scheduled

Monty Hankins, Elbert County Public Works Director, told the Board of County Commissioners that a significant hailstorm on May 24 caused damage to 52 county vehicles.
Hankins said the damage affected multiple departments: 23 sheriff's vehicles, 19 general-fund vehicles and 10 road-and-bridge vehicles. Public Works has submitted insurance claims for all 52 vehicles and coordinated for an insurance adjuster to be on site June 18 and June 19 to inspect grouped vehicles at the Public Works facility. Hankins said windshields that posed safety concerns were already replaced.
Hankins warned some vehicles might require dentless-hail repairs and that more-extensive bodywork could delay availability for some departments depending on the adjuster's findings.
Commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the update; Hankins closed his report after the adjuster scheduling note.
