Highlands Ranch Community Association to launch intergenerational volunteer program; county announces DougNad volunteer yard‑work day

Mike Bailey, general manager of the Highlands Ranch Community Association, described a program called “Bridging Generations, Connecting Wisdom and Wonder” that will pair older adults with youth for story-time sessions at four recreation centers and wilderness-area events. Bailey said the program is planned to launch by mid‑August.
Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle and staff also announced the county’s annual volunteer event, referenced locally as DougNad, will focus this fall on helping older residents with yard work and outdoor chores. The county said the DougNad volunteer day will take place Oct. 25 and that sign-up information will be posted on the county website.
Panelists said the programs are intended to foster social connection, increase volunteer opportunities for older adults and provide practical assistance to residents who need outdoor help with grounds maintenance.
