Revere Commission secures permit for Aug. 9 All Abilities Day at Revere Beach; registration to open in early August

The Revere Commission on Disabilities said on June 10 it has received a permit from the Department of Conservation and Recreation to hold its All Abilities Day on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oak Island Bathhouse (462 Revere Beach Boulevard, entrance 36).
The commission said accessible beach chairs will be provided by DCR’s Universal Access program and that registered participants will receive a free lunch. Commission staff said online registration should be available by Aug. 5 through the city’s Community Pass system.
The event will include vendor tables, informational materials and demonstrations; the commission is recruiting partners and organizations to host a table. Commissioner Ralph DeChico said the commission has invited Waypoint Adventures and listed Save the Harbor/Save the Bay and the DCR Universal Access group among prospective participants.
DeChico announced the DCI approval permit to the commission: “I officially received the DCI approval permit, late yesterday afternoon. So we, we are approved to have our event for Saturday, August 9 from 10 to 2PM,” he said.
Commission staff and commissioners discussed outreach and logistics. A commissioner offered to contact local TV and radio outlets for promotion; the commission also said it would ask the mayor’s office to help with media contacts. Food vendors are limited by city procurement rules; the commission said it will use the city’s preferred food vendor rather than open the site to third‑party food sales.
The commission intends to translate flyers and outreach materials into additional languages ahead of the event. Staff asked commissioners to consider volunteering for setup and on‑site support; the commission will circulate setup times closer to the event date.
