The Iowa Board of Regents on June 12, 2025, approved salary increases for the system—s executive director and for university presidents, and established a two‑year deferred compensation plan for the executive director.
Regent Barker moved the compensation package and the motion was seconded and then approved by roll call. The action sets Executive Director Braun—s base salary at $176,384 effective July 1, 2025; establishes a new deferred compensation plan effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027, with annual contributions of $230,000; and delegates to the board president authority to negotiate and finalize a retirement incentive agreement to be effective July 2, 2027.
The board also approved base salary increases for the university presidents: President Wilson (University of Iowa) to $825,000 effective July 1, 2025; President Wintersteen (Iowa State University) to $735,000 effective July 1, 2025; and President Nook (University of Northern Iowa) to $410,000 effective July 1, 2025.
Motion and vote Regent Barker moved the compensation package; the motion was seconded (transcript indicates a regent seconded). A roll‑call vote recorded approval by the regents present. The board president recorded the final affirmative vote and declared the motion carried.
Implementation and follow up Board staff are to execute the deferred compensation plan and finalize any retirement incentive agreements under the delegated authority provided by the board. The changes are effective July 1, 2025, unless otherwise noted in individual agreements.
