Wilson County Schools will renew student accident insurance with Chubb (through the Young Group) for 2025–27, and the policy includes several enhancements at no additional premium to the district, insurance coordinator Shannon Collins told the board May 19.
Why it matters: student accident insurance covers non-routine medical costs arising from school activities; enhancements noted by staff expand coverage for certain medical events and include existing catastrophic protections.
What the administration reported: - Insurer and term: Chubb will replace QB as the district’s accidental insurance provider, effective for the 2025–27 school years, arranged through the Young Group. - Premium and cost: The district was told there will be no premium change for the district for 2025–27. - Policy enhancements at no additional cost: coverage additions include heat stroke, heart malfunction and violence coverage. - Premium and coverage figures (as reported during the committee presentation): the standard coverage (pre‑K through grade — wording as read at the meeting) was listed at $5,862; athletic coverage (middle and high school athletics, band, JROTC and before/after school) was listed at $24,086. Catastrophic coverage is Class 3 and provides up to $5,000,000; that coverage line was listed at $9,460.
The board received the insurance presentation as part of Administrative Services Committee information items and did not take separate action beyond accepting the committee report.
Next steps: Administration will finalize policy documents and continue to monitor coverage and claims procedures with the new insurer.
