Peggy and Jerry Moore Community Garden reports grant project complete; reimbursement pending

Peggy Moore, volunteer overseer of the Peggy and Jerry Moore Community Garden, told the Keizer Parks and Recreation Board on June 10 that the garden has completed the project funded by a $300 parks grant and that she has submitted the paperwork for reimbursement.
Moore said the garden obtained extra value from the grant by timing purchases and seeking wholesale pricing. “We did spend all your money, but we got more value,” Moore said, describing discounts and supplier suggestions that stretched funds beyond their face value.
Moore told the board the garden has 18 beds normally serving 18 families; this year one group is doubling up, increasing the number of families served to 24. She said some beds are behind schedule due to weather and plant availability but that tomatoes and cucumbers were newly available and the garden was “coming along.” She also reported two children currently garden regularly and that the garden provides fresh produce to participating families.
Moore asked about the reimbursement check; board members acknowledged receipt of her report and thanked volunteers for the garden’s work.
