Jenny Lee Triathlon draws more than 380 entrants; county staff prepare for courthouse rally and weekend events

Katie, the county's tourism staff member, told commissioners on June 11 that the Jenny Lee Triathlon will be held this weekend at Grady's Run and that event organizers have registered more than 380 participants from 30 states and five countries.
"This is the year that it has been held at Grady's Run... We have over 380 runners, from 30 different states and 5 different countries coming," Katie said. She said Grady's Run will be closed Saturday from about 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from about 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and that the sheriff's office will assist with road closures.
A county commissioner noted a forecast for rain on Saturday and Sunday, and Katie said she hoped weather would not significantly affect turnout.
At public-comment time, an audience member asked for details about a planned peaceful protest on the courthouse lawn Saturday. County staff said a party-activity form had been submitted to hold a rally between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and that the rally programming itself was listed in the application for roughly noon to 2 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Staff told commissioners the rally applicant was listed in county paperwork as the Beaver County Young Gun Crimes (as identified by staff in the meeting). County staff said they had met internally and with the Beaver police to coordinate monitoring and to plan for additional deputies if needed.
Separately, a commissioner reminded the room about the Beaver Falls car cruise scheduled for Saturday (weather permitting) and extended good wishes to Freedom High School and Riverside High School as they compete in upcoming state championships.
