Mayor Alex Runagi said he and City Manager Dave Kipp met the new Laguna Beach Unified School District superintendent at a breakfast hosted by Board President Perry and praised the school board for a unanimous selection.
"I think the school board did a great job with their selection. He's someone who really comes with a lot of experience. He was the, the head of the school the whole school system in the state of Kentucky," Runagi said on Fair Game Laguna. He described the superintendent as intelligent and enthusiastic about being in Laguna Beach.
Runagi said one goal for the city and school district is to reduce "toxic divisiveness" and to help the public understand decisions by explaining the data and reasoning behind them. "If you explain yourself, show your math of how are you getting to that decision, then the public is gonna better understand why you're making that decision," he said.
The podcast excerpt did not include the superintendent's name or the date of his first day in Laguna Beach. Runagi said he hopes the community and the district will work together to be "the best school district, the best city in the state of California."
