Mayor says majority of emails favor downtown promenade as appeals mount

Mayor Alex Runagi said the proposed downtown promenade in Laguna Beach has drawn extensive public comment and that most emails he has received so far support the project.
"I've been getting more emails than probably any other issue ... the vast majority of them ... have been in favor of the promenade," Runagi said on the podcast Fair Game Laguna. He also acknowledged there is an organized opposition group attempting to rally resistance.
Runagi said the promenade is one of several items on a special council meeting agenda, where appeals of planning approvals will be considered. "People have the opportunity to participate in the public hearing on Wednesday, and I expect that we will have a robust public process and discussion on this important issue for our community and our downtown," he said.
Tom Johnson, the show's host, noted that it can be easier to rally opposition than support; Runagi urged supporters to make their voices known, saying it is "just as important for those people to voice their enthusiasm for the project as those that want to voice their opinion against the project."
