Cass County approves lot split for Pleasant Hill address; another zoning application tabled

The Cass County Commission on June 4 approved application 3149 from the Cass County Codes and Zoning Department to split roughly 8.5 acres from a larger parent tract commonly known as 19606 South State Route 291 in Pleasant Hill.

Valerie, a codes and zoning staff member, told the commission the planning board had unanimously recommended approval. Applicant Michael Orem, who identified his address as 19606 South State Route 291 in Pleasant Hill, told the commission he owns the original tract and intends to divide off the approximately 8.5-acre parcel for his daughter and son-in-law to build a home.

“...we're wanting to do is just divide off the 8 and a half plus or minus acres, for my daughter and son-in-law to build a household,” Michael Orem said during the public-comment portion.

Following public comment and staff recommendation, commissioners voted in favor; the meeting record shows the vote on application 3149 as “2 votes for, 0 against,” and the application passed. The transcript did not specify names for the motion and second.

The commission also took up application 3150. The commission voted to table application 3150 to a later meeting; a staff member said the item will be readvertised and the planning board had unanimously voted to table it until the end of the month. No public testimony or substantive details about application 3150 were provided in the transcript.

The commission closed the public-comment portion for the zoning items after taking the votes.
