SOS crisis services, Child Advocacy Center request continued county support; commissioners to consider in budget

Representatives from SOS asked the Coffey County Commission to repeat last year’s county support for crisis services and the Child Advocacy Center, requesting $7,500 in county funds and describing recent staffing gains and service activity.
Mary Halloran, crisis services director for SOS, and Jenny Sables, Child Advocacy Center director, presented the organization’s annual budget request to the commission and described local services.
Halloran said SOS now has a full‑time Coffee County advocate in place and described outreach, court advocacy, shelter assistance and prevention education the agency provides. Sables described the Child Advocacy Center’s forensic interviews and family advocacy for children who are alleged victims of abuse.
"Our request is the same as it was last year," Halloran said; the written request given to the commission listed $7,500. Sables described the center’s role in coordinating with law enforcement, county attorneys and other partners and noted that staff training and the 24‑hour on‑call advocacy requirement are key cost drivers.
Commissioners did not take an immediate funding vote; Halloran and Sables were told the request will be scored and considered in the county’s regular budget review.
