Wyatt said the Department of Commerce review did not find sufficient evidence of prospective customers and military demand to support the federal term‑sheet (a preliminary memorandum of terms). He described a parallel argument — that private investment directed at federal facility modernizations (energy and IT upgrades) could create a stable, immediate U.S. customer base for domestically produced gallium nitride. Wyatt said those potential savings and procurement pathways remain a topic of further outreach.
Commissioners voted to move into an executive session to discuss “financial affairs, trade secrets of the corporation” under the Kansas open‑meetings provision cited during the meeting. The session lasted the time the board set and, on returning to the public meeting, the commission recorded that no formal action was taken as a result of the executive session.
Wyatt and other panelists urged renewed outreach to higher federal leadership and private partners to re‑present the opportunity at national levels. Wyatt said he and private partners have continued to seek customers, technology partnerships and routes to federal facility upgrades that could create demand for U.S.‑made gallium nitride.
Commissioners did not approve new commitments at the meeting; Wyatt said the work to seek federal and private attention will continue.
