District unveils plans to centralize family communications with PowerSchool hub and ClassLink

Mr. Lutz described SafeArrival, a PowerSchool feature that would let parents submit attendance via the PowerSchool app and reduce back‑and‑forth phone calls and emails. He said My Power Hub will give families one “pane of glass” for student grades, assignments, attendance, calendars and a news center; the district highlighted multilingual support so communications appear in a family’s chosen language.
Committee members — including student representatives and parents on the call — asked practical questions about timing and how the system would handle alerts. A student asked whether app notifications could replace school phone calls; staff replied that the district could configure notifications but had not finalized whether calls would be eliminated and that implementation details would be discussed after approval. Board members raised concerns about delayed notifications (for example, a late‑morning alert instead of an early‑morning notice) and staffing impacts when attendance staff are absent; staff said the tool should streamline communications and hoped it would speed up alerts but that exact timing depended on how absences are processed.
Staff also described integrating PowerSchool with ClassLink to provide a parent landing page and a password locker for commonly used services (for example, SchoolCafe, ArbiterSports and other provider portals). The district said parents can opt out of stored passwords. Staff noted that some district resources (for example IEP documents) are accessible through the parent portal in PowerSchool rather than ClassLink.
No formal board action was taken; staff will continue implementation planning and bring configuration decisions back to district leadership for approval.
