Agency names Adam Charleston of Coley Jensen interim general counsel after executive session

Following an executive session at its May 28 meeting, the Sarpy County and Cities Wastewater Agency approved Resolution No. 11 to appoint Adam Charleston of Coley Jensen, P.C., L.L.O., as interim general legal counsel effective June 2.

Chair Don Kelly announced the board would enter executive session at 4:15 p.m. for a litigation update and contract negotiations, and he requested that Adam Charleston not participate in the portion of the session covering litigation because attorney Brent Meyer of Husch Blackwell had been managing that litigation. "I would request in this one that Adam Charleson not be a participant in the first one, our current legal counsel. But Brent Meyer from Hutch Blackwell, because the first portion will be a litigation update that Brent has been managing for us as an attorney with Hutch Blackwell," the administrator said during the meeting.

After returning to open session around 5:02 p.m., agency staff asked the board to approve the interim appointment. Dan Hoins, the agency administrator, asked for approval "to appoint Adam under the as a Coley Jensen attorney on an interim basis while we negotiate a longer term contract." Board members approved Resolution No. 11 on a voice vote: five yes, Bellevue absent. The motion to approve was recorded as moved by Sarpy and seconded by Springfield.

The agency did not disclose terms of a longer-term contract during the public meeting. The interim counsel appointment was placed into effect with an effective date of June 2.

Action details: Resolution No. 11 approved; interim appointment effective 2025-06-02. The board previously held an executive session limited to legal matters and contract negotiations before taking the public vote.

The agency scheduled its next regular meeting for June 25, 2025.
