The College Station Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 7-0 Tuesday, May 27, 2025, during a special workshop to approve a new administrator contract appointing Dawn Newton as principal of Rock Prairie Elementary School.
The appointment was presented under Item C; Dr. Harker said the recommendation follows board policy. "In accordance with the board policy, DC local and CSISD board of trustees has final authority in hiring of administrators," he said, introducing the recommendation that the board issue a new administrator contract for Dawn Newton.
Board member Dr. Payne moved to approve the contract; Ms. Simmon seconded. After no further discussion, the board chair called the vote and the motion carried, seven to zero.
Harker described Newton's local experience, saying she "has been in College Station 21 Years of '22," that she "is a 5 year AP" and that she currently serves at Southwood Valley. Following the vote, Newton addressed the board and attendees, saying, "I'm just really excited to be at Rock Prairie to join the Wrangler family and support the students as they grow," and thanking trustees and colleagues for their support.
The board recessed shortly afterward for a planned training session.
