Sharyland ISD board approves consent agenda, personnel report, tax hearing date and waivers; reorganizes officers

On the consent agenda trustees approved the April 2025 month-end bills, financial and tax-collection reports, investment reports, budget amendments for general, food service, federal and state grant funds, prior meeting minutes, authorization to seek proposals for resurfacing Garza Elementary parking lot and the Special Education 18 Plus building, award of Medicaid claiming and billing services to Onward Learning (via cooperative approved vendor), approval for out-of-state travel for Sharyland High School mariachi to perform at Carnegie Hall, and a dual-credit memorandum of understanding with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for the 2025'027 cycle. The motion to approve the consent agenda passed 7'0.
Following a closed session in which personnel matters, student discipline, security, real property and attorney consultation were discussed under Texas Government Code (items cited on the agenda), the board returned to open session and approved the administration's personnel report, including resignations and employment contract recommendations for the 2024'025 and 2025'026 school years. That motion passed 7'0.
The board reorganized officers for the coming year and voted to keep the existing president, vice president, secretary and assistant secretary in their current roles by unanimous vote.
Trustees approved scheduling a public hearing to discuss the proposed tax rate for fiscal year 2025'026 on June 23, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., to be held 30 minutes before the regular board meeting. Board members also authorized submission of low-attendance day waivers for Jan. 20, 2025 and Jan. 22, 2025 in response to weather-related low attendance.
