Sharyland ISD approves TSIA training and new HVAC, welding equipment for CTE expansion

The Sharyland Independent School District Board of Trustees approved three procurement items to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) and college-readiness initiatives.
The board unanimously approved using a cooperative vendor agreement with Princeton Review to purchase TSIA (Texas Success Initiative Assessment) teacher training and student e-books for English and math. District staff said recent changes to college-qualifying pathways make TSIA, SAT or ACT the route for some students to qualify for advanced courses, and the materials are intended to expand access to multiple test-prep options.
Trustees also approved purchases of HVAC and welding equipment to outfit the district's CTE programs, with specific vendor approvals and amounts disclosed in open session. Administration requested $87,966 from Advanced Technologies for HVAC equipment and $141,280 from a welding supplier; both purchases were presented as CTE general-fund expenditures. The superintendent said the district is also exploring acquiring surplus equipment from a neighboring district that is consolidating campuses and could reduce the need to exhaust the approved purchase authority.
All three procurement motions passed by unanimous votes. Trustees said they were enthusiastic about strengthening CTE facilities and teacher readiness as the district expands program offerings and pathways to postsecondary credentials.
