The city’s film-industry liaison urged the Los Angeles City Council on May 21 to retain a city-funded position she said is essential to supporting local productions and coordinating among city, county and state partners.
Iva Bautard (name as spoken in testimony), who identified herself as the city film liaison and a recipient of past city recognition for her work, told the council she had led efforts to maintain production during the pandemic and to coordinate through strikes and other disruptions. She said thousands of jobs and substantial economic activity hinge on production support and asked that the position be preserved in the budget.
She said yesterday’s mayoral remarks promoting a return of production should be matched by funding to retain institutional capacity. No council action occurred during the public-comment period; the request was delivered to budget committee members as they consider final appropriations.
Ending: Ms. Bautard asked council members to weigh the economic impact of the film industry and to preserve the liaison role to maintain the city's capacity to attract and support productions.
