The Crossville Police Department reported a year‑over‑year decline in reported crimes and an improved clearance rate at the council work session.
The police chief said the department recorded 976 crimes reported in the latest annualized reporting period and a clearance rate of 66.6 percent for the recorded offenses, figures the chief described as a significant improvement and above commonly asked performance targets. The chief credited shifts in departmental focus and proactive investigations for the decline. Officers executed a drug raid during the reporting period that yielded a quantity of fentanyl and the police department worked with Cumberland County authorities on the operation, the chief said.
The department also described expanded social‑services work inside the police department: a social‑service specialist embedded with police is working with individuals experiencing homelessness and connecting them to resources when possible. The chief said the city has more statutory tools than in prior years to address trespass and repeat offenders when businesses post and cooperate with enforcement. The department also used targeted enforcement and business partnerships to improve prosecution for repeat shoplifting cases, which staff said will raise reported crime numbers in the short term but can reduce repeat offending over time.
The chief closed by asking council members to share any information they want and offering to provide data or further updates on request.
