The Wayne County Board of Equalization and Review (BE&R) gave a status report on May 20: as of the prior evening the office had received 779 valuation appeals for tax year 2025 — 161 commercial appeals and 618 residential appeals.
BE&R staff told the Board of Commissioners that appeals postmarked through the filing date would still be accepted and that staff were finishing their reviews. The office expects to notify appellants next week whether their value changed and, if so, how it will be reflected. Appellants who wish to pursue an appeal after the BE&R decision will have instructions to request a hearing before the commissioners; staff will coordinate dates based on how many appellants request a hearing and attempt to schedule them on regular commission meeting dates for convenience.
BE&R staff emphasized the goal of resolving as many appeals administratively as possible before more appellants appear before the board.
