Caldwell Meals on Wheels celebrates 50th year, details volunteer-run program

Julie Warwick, executive director of Caldwell Meals on Wheels, told the council during public comment on May 19 that the organization will mark its 50th year and described daily operations that serve homebound seniors in Caldwell and nearby rural areas.
Warwick said the program serves about 10 recipients in Caldwell with hot weekday meals and an additional roughly 40 recipients in rural Caldwell, Greenleaf and Middleton who receive frozen weekly deliveries. She said the organization relies on about 40 volunteers, has one full-time staffer and one part-time office worker, purchases meals from Metro Meals on Wheels at the Meridian Senior Center, and does not currently maintain a wait list for services in Caldwell thanks to local fundraising.
Warwick also noted a PetSmart Charities grant that helped establish a pet-assistance program to provide pet food and occasional veterinary assistance for homebound seniors who cannot afford those services.
