West Fargo Public Works reports workforce, service volumes; mayor proclaims Public Works Week

The West Fargo Public Works Department presented an annual report to the City Commission on May 19 that summarized staffing, service volumes and infrastructure maintained by the department.
Public Works Director Matt Anvick outlined highlights from the report, including staffing levels, capital and operating figures, and service volumes. The report stated the department has about 90 full-time employees and 14 seasonal employees and reported an overall 2024 Public Works budget of roughly $26.7 million.
Anvick cited several operational totals included in the report: hundreds of lane miles maintained by the street division, thousands of tons of asphalt used on street repairs, roughly 184 miles of sanitary sewer and about 205 miles of storm sewer maintained, and approximately 1.3 billion gallons of water purchased from Fargo. The department also reported maintaining more than 5,000 street lights, 32 traffic signals, nearly 25,000 tons of solid waste disposed and more than 15,000 visits to the city transfer station last year.
Anvick said the annual report is intended to increase public awareness of the range of Public Works responsibilities, from snow removal and street sweeping to sewer and water system maintenance. He credited the Public Works staff who compiled the report and said the department plans to publish the report annually for year-to-year comparisons.
Commission President Dartis read a mayoral proclamation, signed by Mayor Bernie Dardis, declaring the week of May 18 through May 24, 2025, as National Public Works Week in West Fargo and encouraging residents to recognize the contributions of public works professionals to community health, safety and quality of life. The proclamation text noted the American Public Works Association sponsors the annual observance.
The report was informational and required no action; commissioners thanked the Public Works team and congratulated staff on the report and the department's work.
