Parks and Recreation staff asked the Board of Aldermen on July 17 for authority to solicit proposals for concession and ball-field management for the 2026 season through a request-for-proposals process.
Parks Director Eric Gregory said the cityran a similar contract in 2024 and while the contract had "hiccups" it provided financial stability and reduced the need to hire as many seasonal staff. Gregory told aldermen recruiting for seasonal staff had been difficult due to local wage competition, and that tournament directors have expressed interest in partnering to bring multiple large tournaments in future years. Parks staff proposed an updated RFP that would exclude Little League management (the parks department would retain community Little League responsibilities and related sponsorships) and focus on concession operations during tournaments and large events.
Board members discussed timing and whether issuing an RFP mid-2025 was appropriate for the 2026 season; staff said tournament directors plan well in advance and the timing will allow the city and potential vendors to lock dates. The board voted to authorize staff to solicit bids and return with proposals for evaluation.
