Staff said the contract is under review; once finalized and signed, Eaton’s timeline suggests about six to eight months before the utility can place meters on customer services. In the interim, staff will install gateways and complete software and training tasks.
Staff and board discussed contract language: members said some commitments made during presentations were not included in the draft contract, and staff will seek those commitments in revisions. Staff noted the project will require changes to the city’s fee schedule — a resolution will be needed to update rates and the fee schedule to reflect new meter types and service charges.
Cost estimates were discussed informally. One presenter said an initial estimate is roughly $2.5 million (staff later asked Eaton to refine and reduce the figure). No final contract value was approved during the meeting; staff said they would return with a final contract after internal review and negotiation.
