Forest Park Fire Department marks Mental Health Awareness Month, reports emergency-management certifications and new hires

Forest Park’s Fire Department told the City Council on Thursday that May is Mental Health Awareness Month and reported progress on training, certifications and staffing.

The department said it concluded initial rounds of emergency-management training with city departments; Public Safety Educator Anthony Goldman completed an emergency-management certification, and the department now lists three personnel with emergency-management certifications: the speaker, the public safety educator Bowman and Joanna Armstrong, who the speaker identified as the division chief of emergency management.
The department also said it has onboarded five new members — three paramedics and two advanced emergency medical technicians (AMTs) — and promoted two EMS lieutenants who will supervise paramedics. "The fire department, we're constantly moving, to increase our professional service and our delivery to the city of Forest Park," the speaker said.
The department referenced a recent friendly basketball game with the police department and closed its remarks without requesting council action.
No budget or deployment timelines for the new hires were provided during the briefing.
