Multiple members of the public used the council’s public statements period to announce community events and give feedback on city plans.
Donna Smith, president of the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley, announced the Star Spangled Rockin’ Country fireworks celebration on July 4 at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, described programming including a kids zone, music and a VIP package, and requested donations for a community food drive. Brian Davis, speaking for the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, thanked the city for partnership and noted the chamber received the Cal Chamber President’s Circle Award.
Resident Daniel Weiner publicly thanked the Simi Valley Police Department for a rapid response after vandalism damaged his front door and praised Officer Evan Shaw (spelled S‑H‑A‑W in the transcript) and his partner for locating suspects within an hour. Greg Littster used his time to apologize publicly for a prior unkind remark to another resident and reiterated concerns he has about sewer rate increases and public‑employee compensation discussions.
Other public comments urged careful public engagement on a forthcoming bicycle master plan and requested speed‑limit and signage changes at a specific neighborhood corner where a resident said a child could be at risk. Sharon Larkowski and exchange student Maria Muraru were recognized by Rotary for a year‑long international student exchange; council members thanked Rotary and host families.
Council members responded during their council comments, thanking volunteers and community groups and noting plans for outreach on the bicycle plan, including a survey posted in the city newsletter.
