Council approves vacation of 3-foot easement at Stapleton lot to correct platting error

The Meridian City Council approved a petition to vacate a 3-foot public-utility/irrigation/drainage easement on Lot 31, Block 3 of the Stapleton subdivision (case H-2025-0024). Staff said the vacation corrects a drafting error on the recorded final plat: the developer and surveyor intended Lot 31 to be 64 feet wide but the recorded plat shows 49 feet.
Staff recommended approval after receiving relinquishment letters from affected utility providers. The applicant told council the error was discovered during building-permit preparation and that the requested process is intended to correct the record so the lot can be used as intended. The city will reestablish a new easement as part of a subsequent property-boundary adjustment and a quitclaim deed. No buildings will be affected because no building permit has been issued for the lot.
Councilor Schrader moved approval and the council approved the vacation; no substantive public opposition was raised at the hearing.
