Macomb County accepts $4.03 million Homeland Security grant as regional fiduciary and plans mobile command vehicle purchase

The county reported a total award of approximately $4,025,909 for the region. Of that total, the presentation stated $3,327,757 will be passed through to partner jurisdictions in Southeast Michigan, $201,294 will be retained for county administration, and $496,858 will be reserved for Macomb County projects. The committee was asked to approve a budget amendment to receive and disburse the grant revenue and to adopt an interlocal agreement that formalizes the pass‑through relationships with other counties and the city of Detroit. Committee members were shown the interlocal template used in prior years.
Separately, the committee considered a previously accepted federal payment of $818,271 that staff asked to move from the emergency management grant fund to the county general fund to facilitate purchase of a mobile command vehicle to be shared by emergency management and the sheriff's office. Staff said the vehicle purchase will be funded by the grant proceeds and that the purchase advances regional operational readiness.
Committee members asked procedural questions and the committee voted to recommend the budget amendments and the interlocal agreement to the full board. The committee recorded a recommendation with near‑unanimous support.
