Summary
The Macomb Township Board adopted the fiscal 2025–26 General Appropriations Act and set millage rates June 11, 2025, approving major capital spending on roads and staffing changes included in the budget.
The Macomb Township Board of Trustees adopted the township’s General Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2025–26 on June 11, 2025, and separately set the millage rates that fund general operations, fire, police protection and parks and recreation.
Township Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith presented budget highlights at a public hearing earlier in the meeting and summarized that governmental funds reflect roughly an $8.5 million spend-down that includes approximately $25 million in capital improvement projects. The water and sewer fund shows about a $2.2 million spend-down and nearly $15 million in capital projects for the coming year. Smith said the township allocated roughly $14 million in the roadway fund for road projects.
After the public hearing the board voted to adopt the General Appropriations Act. The board also set the 2025 millage rates as follows: general operating 0.6189 mills, fire operating 1.9 mills, police protection 1.45 mills and parks and recreation 0.7417 mills (the parks and rec rate was reduced under Headlee rollback). The board also formally set the longstanding fire pension millage at 0.0 mills so the rate remains on the books but no levy will be collected this year.
Board members and staff noted this budget includes the largest township investment in roads in recent history and provides funding for two additional deputies contracted through the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and other staffing changes. Trustees and department heads praised finance staff for the multi-hour public hearing and the work to reach the final budget.
The General Appropriations Act and millage settings were approved by roll call; the board adopted the budget by unanimous vote.
