"At the time of this report, the city has 1 vacancy, which is less than the 20% threshold as outlined in AB 2561," Byrd said. She identified the vacancy as a full-time community services coordinator position for which a contingent job offer has been made and accepted. The city received 42 applications for the recruitment, Byrd said, and described the typical hiring timeline as "approximately 8 weeks from the beginning of recruitment to a tentative start date." Byrd also said the city, which does not have a union, invites employees every two years during the budget cycle to discuss compensation and benefits.
Council members asked no substantive follow-up questions and characterized the report as a routine, procedural compliance item intended for jurisdictions facing high vacancy rates. Council members Deborah Klein Lopez, Chris Anstead and others said they were satisfied that the city does not meet the thresholds AB 2561 targets.
