Plainview Chamber outlines events, outreach and member growth

Phyllis Wall and Tanya Cassie of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce presented the Chamber's annual report to the City Council on June 6.

Wall summarized programs and events: the Chamber recognizes two businesses each month across six categories (agriculture, retail, service, food, medical and miscellaneous); it recognizes a student of the month from several local schools; and it holds multiple "business after hours" networking events. Wall noted the Chamber's July 4 fireworks and that the Chamber's fundraiser trip to Spain in October 2024 helped finance a digital sign now in place to promote businesses.

The Chamber reported outreach and membership activity: Chamber ambassadors (39 at the time of the presentation) support ribbon cuttings and community events; the Chamber conducted a November "shop small" outreach visiting 194 businesses; and current Chamber membership is 372. Wall said the Chamber distributed $18,150 in $300 mini grants to Plainview Independent School District teachers after receiving $4,800 in donations.

Tanya Cassie thanked the council for city support and collaboration, saying, "thank y'all for all you do," and noted daily social‑media outreach and in‑person visits to businesses as part of membership engagement. Council members offered brief remarks of appreciation for the Chamber's events and volunteer engagement.

No action was required by the council on the presentation; it was received as an informational report.
