County submits MS4 annual report to DNR; Wausau MPO applies for USDOT Safe Streets planning funds

County staff told the Infrastructure Committee on June 5 that Marathon County submitted its annual MS4 (municipal separate storm sewer system) report to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources this spring. The report catalogs county activities designed to reduce stormwater pollution risk from county facilities and roadways, including public education through the North Central Wisconsin Stormwater Coalition, salt application practices, and inspections of outfalls and highway facilities.
Staff said the DNR will review the report and may provide comments or request additional updates for future reporting cycles.
Committee members also heard that the Wausau Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), housed in Marathon County CPZ, authorized staff on May 13 to apply for USDOT Safe Streets for All planning funds to conduct a comprehensive safety analysis across the MPO boundary. Staff said there is no county action required at present; if funds are awarded they will be incorporated into the 2026 budget or accepted via amendment.
Staff invited questions; none were raised at the meeting.
