Commissioner Marie Holcomb said the center is surrounded by senior communities and described several programs a fair could highlight, including information about the veterans home in Boulder City, aid-and-attendance benefits, caregiver programs, tax services and mental-health activities. “This is something that needs to happen,” Holcomb said, adding a fair would reach seniors who may lack family support or knowledge about available services.
Commissioner Marvin Parker supported the idea but urged planning based on data to avoid low turnout or overwhelming attendees with too many similar vendors. Parker recommended clarifying vendor selection protocols and adding follow-up (surveys or newsletter sign-ups) to measure outcomes and demonstrate impact.
Wilson Ramos (staff) suggested deploying a survey in advance to identify needs and using a QR code at the event to collect attendee feedback and contact information. Commissioners agreed the fair should serve both veterans and the broader senior community and emphasized follow-up to convert event contacts into measurable services.
