Hayward to begin $12.5 million pavement improvement program June 23 covering 41 lane miles

The City of Hayward’s annual pavement improvement project is scheduled to begin June 23, Assistant City Manager Youngblood told the council, with approximately $12.5 million allocated for street resurfacing, curb‑ramp upgrades, new bike‑lane and crosswalk striping and improvements to 65 street segments totaling about 41 lane miles.
Youngblood said residents in affected neighborhoods will receive 72 hours’ notice before work begins and that the contractor, Dasilva Gates Construction, will deliver the notices. The project will also install or update curb ramps and add striping intended to improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities where the work occurs.
Staff said the project is funded through a combination of Alameda County Measure BB, state gas tax revenues, state vehicle registration fees and other sources. The presentation characterized the work as routine capital maintenance intended to extend pavement life and improve ADA access at curb ramps.
Council members did not take a formal vote; staff said the project was scheduled and will proceed through the city’s standard public‑works permitting and notification process. Residents with questions or concerns will be directed to public works contacts and the project page once work begins.
