Cumberland County schedules special meeting after distributing Crown Event Center cost and assessment documents

County staff handed commissioners a set of documents on June 2 related to the Crown Event Center and said the board would meet again later in the week to review the materials and consider next steps.
County Manager Greer told the board each commissioner had a black folder containing the AIA document, an updated GMP3 estimate that reflects a pause and new considerations such as tariffs and inflation, a valuation for modernizing the Crown Arena Theater and a three-page summary of an updated multipurpose-center parking assessment produced by the project architect. "The first document you should have is the AIA document, the updated GMP3 estimate based on, after the pause and, consideration of tariffs and inflation," Greer said.
Commissioner Tyson raised a point of order asking whether the county attorney had reviewed the documents and whether any materials might be covered by attorney-client privilege because of unresolved disputes over the downtown center. County Attorney Rick Morfield said he had seen the documents and that, "No. It's already out there. So it there's not an attorney client situation at this point." Morfield also indicated the materials were being provided to the board for consideration at a special meeting later in the week.
County Manager Greer told the board staff had received the materials recently and asked commissioners to provide availability so the clerk could set a special meeting, possibly on Wednesday afternoon, to deliberate. "We will look to set a special meeting later this week... potentially looking at, sometime Wednesday afternoon," Greer said. No formal action was taken during the June 2 meeting; the item was informational and a special meeting will be announced by the clerk.
Ending: The board did not take votes on the Crown Event Center documents at the June 2 meeting; staff and the county attorney plan to provide the materials to commissioners and reconvene for a dedicated session later in the week.
