Board approves Mediacom utility work, closes county road for bridge project; county engineer outlines summer road work and a regional safety grant application

County Engineer Doug (first name only in transcript) presented the utility request and recommended approval; the board moved and seconded the permit and carried the motion on a voice vote.
Doug then updated the board on multiple road projects and maintenance activities: patching and asphalt repairs have been completed at several locations; road closed signs at Hannah Road will be removed when resurfacing crews arrive; slurry leveling work continues on P58 and on P30/North Highway 18; crack filling work is underway and will extend south of P58; and the deck removal on the Sexton bridge is complete and staging is in place for construction to begin.
Doug said the county is pursuing a federal highway grant under a multijurisdictional Safe Streets for All effort. He reported that several counties — Hancock, Winnebago, Franklin and Kossuth — are combining safety projects into a single application and that the county expects to include three projects, the most extensive being pavement widening and centerline and edge rumble stripes along B19 from Burt toward the west county line. The board was told Humboldt County will share some of the work on slurry leveling and that Kossuth’s share will cover half of that joint activity.
Board action on the bridge closure was recorded as Resolution number 06032501 and was approved by roll call (Haas, Garman, Stecker, Wachter and Nash voted yes). The utility permit and the bridge closure were both carried without recorded dissent.
No contract awards were finalized at the meeting; staff said construction is now staged and will proceed under the resolution and standard contracting processes.
