Chemung County holds public hearing on agricultural-district modification; no public comments

A staff member opened a public hearing noticed for 6:55 p.m. June 2, 2025, to consider requests and recommendations from the Chemung County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board and the Chemung County Planning Board on a proposed modification to the Chemung County Agricultural District to include properties listed in the public notice.

The staff member said the “description and map of the proposed modifications . . . have been available and will remain available to be examined in the office of the Clerk of the Chemung County Legislature, 203 Lake Street, Elmira, New York, during normal business hours, 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.” The staff member also said only matters included in the hearing notice could be discussed and that public comments were limited to five minutes per person. The staff member told attendees that legislators would not answer questions during the public hearing and would not participate in the hearing.

One person approached the microphone when asked if anyone wished to be heard and said, “I don't have any comments.” With no other members of the public indicating they wished to speak, the staff member closed the public hearing.

No formal action or vote was recorded on the record during the hearing. Documents described in the public notice — including a list of properties and maps — were identified as available for inspection at the Clerk's office during regular business hours.
