The Bristol Police Department and council recognized multiple officers and dispatchers at the May 13 city council meeting for lifesaving actions and service.
Chief Ashbrook and department representatives presented a meritorious conduct award to Sergeant Tyler Cross and Lieutenant Wendy Brewer for actions on Sept. 23, 2023, after officers found a woman with multiple stab wounds; officers applied first aid, secured the scene and ensured EMS transport. Officer Kenneth Shadley received a lifesaving award for providing CPR and administering Narcan on June 27, 2023, to a man who was not breathing from an apparent opioid overdose. Officers Wesley Carter and Shane Pratt received a lifesaving award for responding to a fentanyl overdose on March 13, 2025; Carter performed chest compressions while Pratt administered Narcan and EMS revived the patient. Carter also received a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award recognizing impaired-driving enforcement efforts for 2023 and 2024.
The department also presented the department’s first “stork awards” to dispatchers Jerry Rolfe and Debbie Farris for providing pre-arrival instructions on two separate 911 calls that resulted in the delivery of newborns (Aug. 23, 2022, and Dec. 30, 2022). Councilors and the mayor thanked the officers and dispatchers during the meeting, which coincided with National Police Week.
No formal council action was required for the recognitions, which were presented as ceremonial items.
