City staff report: power poles removed, Trader Joe's and Panera activity, Riverside Flats discussions continue

Brandon Cooper (Community Development) reported that the power poles on South Weber Drive and Century Way were removed as of Sunday, resolving a safety issue that had caused some local outages. "That safety issue has been resolved," Cooper said.
Cooper provided project updates: he said Trader Joe's is "commencing with the things that they need to commence with" and that Panera's site work was delayed but that July remained the contractor's estimated opening month. He also said the RC Willey building had renewed interest from prospective users (proposed uses not specified) and that the Riverside Flats project team has been meeting with city staff to work toward a mutually acceptable resolution.
Cooper told the council that UDOT required an island in the middle of Riverdale Road near the Panera site; staff pushed back but were unsuccessful. "If you're coming down out of the terrace, don't cut that too sharp or you're gonna be going over a bump right there," he said, and clarified the island is a UDOT mandate, not a city design.

City staff said they are continuing negotiations on Riverside Flats to find a resolution acceptable to all parties.
