Board hears bond update: high school topping out, OES renovations, deferred maintenance and bus CNG conversion plans

Jeff Thomas (505) and project manager Mr. Bogambol reported the following highlights: - OES (Operations & Educational Support): interior renovations were scheduled for completion in June; bus parking work (site graveling) was underway with paving targeted for July, weather permitting. The district has a memorandum of agreement with GES to provide CNG conversion kits, a fueling facility and bus storage at no cost to the district. - Deferred maintenance: roofing and mechanical work has mobilized at the middle school (Sanger Ridge), and field house/PAC mechanical work is underway; most RTUs were reported received and the large PAC unit was scheduled to ship in August. - New high school: topping out ceremony took place May 29. Construction details reported include curtain wall and brick completion in areas, interior drywall and tile installation, stair formwork and RTU set-up. The building was described as roughly 200,000 square feet (board comments estimated “just short of 200,000”), with a long north–south footprint. Interior finish, FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment) bid packaging was being planned for August so move-in could begin in phases early next year if schedules allow. - Athletics phase: design and construction documentation for athletic projects are planned to begin in July with bidding timed to follow the high-school completion, enabling construction to start after the primary high-school work is complete.
Board members praised contractor coordination and the workforce; several members noted the building will serve the district and community once complete. No formal votes or contract awards were recorded during the update beyond prior approvals referenced by staff.
