Transylvania County Schools reports underground storage tank closures, RFQ issued for Brevard High projects

Facilities staff updated the Transylvania County Board of Education on June 16 about underground fuel-tank work and upcoming construction procurement tied to Brevard High School and area schools.
Beacher Allison, presenting the facilities report, said the underground storage tank at Brevard Elementary will be closed in place this summer and storage tanks at Brevard High School will be removed. Allison said replacement tanks for the Rosman-area schools will be scheduled in the next phase, likely next summer.
Allison described ongoing work on “BHS scope number 1,” which covers renovation work at the old gym. He said the district submitted documents to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and had been expecting DPI clearance as of the meeting: “We are expecting, we were expecting clearance from them as of today. And unless it hit the inbox on my way over here, we hadn’t gotten it yet,” Allison said.
Allison said the district has walked sites in the Rosman and Brevard areas and that architects are reviewing historic plans and compiling site notes. The board was told an RFQ (request for qualifications) for a construction manager-at-risk was out and responses were due in June.
A board member asked whether the district will produce a consolidated master schedule for projects and Allison replied he can provide an update and a summary showing which projects are ahead or behind schedule at the next facilities update.
No formal action was taken during the facilities update; the item was presented for information and planning.
