Milwaukee County’s Department of Administrative Services Office of Economic Development reported to the SEED committee on county property inventory and recent sales activity, saying the county has one property currently listed for sale and has completed 12 sales year‑to‑date.
Emily Streff, project manager with Economic Development, said the active listing is a vacant commercially zoned lot in District 16. The department is preparing an RFP for two vacant parcels on Packard Ave. (in coordination with the City of Cudahy) and preparing a residential property in St. Francis for future sale. She said two residential properties in Oak Creek and Greenfield are pending repurchase by prior owners due to earlier errors. The 12 completed transactions included seven residential homes and five vacant or commercial parcels; staff said the sales returned properties to private ownership, recovered back taxes and supported neighborhood reinvestment.
Streff said the treasurer’s office completed title searches on 84 tax‑delinquent parcels and will publish notices as required by state statute before initial hearing dates; corporation counsel intends to split the 84 parcels into two batches with judgment dates expected in the fall. Committee members asked clarifying questions about specific foreclosed properties and departmental jurisdiction for cleanup or housing redevelopment.
